Can I use SUPERFOOD while taking Isotretinoin / acne medication?Updated 10 days ago
We do not recommend using products containing Vitamin A / retinol while you are on Isotretinoin.
The reason is that both Isotretinoin (e.g., Roaccutane®) and retinol (Vitamin A in skincare products) act on the same Vitamin A pathway. Both can cause skin irritation, dryness, and increased sensitivity — and when combined, the risk of side effects increases, such as:
Extreme dryness of skin and mucous membranes
Irritation and redness
Increased sun sensitivity
Risk of eczema-like reactions
Dermatologists usually recommend completely avoiding retinol and other Vitamin A-based products in your skincare routine while being treated with Isotretinoin. Instead, you should use very mild, moisturizing, and repairing products — without active acids or Vitamin A.
👉 What you can do:
Stick to gentle cleansers, fragrance-free creams, and possibly a high-SPF sunscreen.
Save your retinol products until after you’ve completed your Isotretinoin treatment — most people wait a few months before reintroducing them, when the skin can tolerate them again.
