Do I get the same protection from a day cream with SPF as from a facial sunscreen?Updated 10 days ago
URBAN PROTECTION day cream provides broad-spectrum UV protection with both UVA protection and SPF 30, and is designed for daily use all year round. If you spend time in the sun — for example, when walking home from work — it’s recommended to reapply, as the sun protection effect will decrease over time.
A day cream with sun protection and a sunscreen with the same SPF rating provide the same level of protection. The labeling requirements for both sunscreens and day creams with sun protection are identical. This means that a product labeled SPF 30 meets the same standards, whether it’s a sunscreen or a day cream.
However, there are some important things to keep in mind. All products labeled with SPF (both sunscreens and day creams with SPF) should be reapplied during the day to maintain their protective effect. If you spend extended time in the sun, the product should be reapplied every two hours. On days when you are outdoors for long periods, it’s necessary to reapply several times throughout the day.
If you plan to swim or exercise outdoors where you sweat, it’s recommended to choose a water-resistant product. Very few day creams with SPF are water-resistant, while sunscreens are more likely to be — though not always. Therefore, it’s a good idea to double-check that your sunscreen is water-resistant before bringing it to the beach.
